With the rapid development of network and multimedia technology, the multimedia information security problems including copyright piracy emerged as side effects over network. Digital watermarking technology provides digital products with an effect measure of copyright protection. As a new multimedia products,3D models, whose copyright protection and content authentication are also becoming the people's hotspots and being used widely and popularly day by day.This article first systematic introduces the basic conception of digital watermarking including elementary theory,characteristic,classification and application. And then we have an introduction of the 3D watermarking. Especially we take 3D mesh models as main research objects according to the different methods of 3D modeling. Studied the unified digital geometry processing frame, it solves the difficult problem that lacks the natural frequency decomposition. And then studied the sparse component analysis, its purpose is taking minority atoms in the over-completed dictionary as the analyzed signal so that we can obtain the signal's essential characteristic.The kernel of this article, we proposed a new digital watermarking algorithm for 3D mesh models. Based on the plane parameter of the digital geometry processing frame, the algorithm takes the method of sparse approximate to find the mesh's essential characteristic points, in which we can join some weak signals so that the purpose of embedding watermarking can be obtained. We should do some pretreatment work such as re-location and re-sampling before extraction.Finally, we have the experiment result of algorithm. From the result and the data we can obtain that the algorithm has strong robustness to mesh simplification and affine transformation.
