Gel-casting is a novel forming process of PLCT pyroelectric material combining innoxious gel-casting with PLCT pyroelectric material, and there is few report about this aspect in china. Gel-casting used in the paper is an in-situ forming process in which slurry of ceramic powder which uses the condensation of orthosilicic acid in slurry of ceramic is cast. The process is a promising technique for complex shapes of ceramic materials with high ingredient uniformity and high reliability of performance. Gel-cast green bodies are strong and machinable. The technological character, conditions and affecting factors are discussed in the paper. The paper attaches importance to prepare high-grade hydrolysis liquid to redu- cing the viscosity of volume, the effects of PH value, temperature, ethanol content and the method of mixing on the quality of hydrolysis liquid are investigated. At the same time, the research is done in sintering temperature and rate of heating-up, and the PLCT pyroelectric material which the performance is better than that made by trad- itional technology is prepared. With this method the thick film is prepared by technology of tape-casting. The technology of drying and sintering is invented through the research on technology of tape-casting and the new formulation on configuration of hydrolysis liquid. The perform- ance of PLCT thick film made through plywood-faced sintering method is good. The results show that,in the range of temperature measured, the PLCT pyroelectric cera- mics sample made by gel-casting, which pyroelectric coefficient and detectivity figure-of-merits are 8.0×10-4C/m2K, and 9.87×10-5Pa-1/2 respectively, and pyroelectric coefficient and detectivity figure-of-merits of the PLCT pyroelectric thick film sample are 3.0×10-4C/m2K, and 2.016×10-5Pa-1/2.The previous performance indicates that gel-casting has the extremely attractive prospect on the development and application of the pyroelectric materials and devices.
