In this paper, it is analyzed the necessary and importance to establish data warehouse in HIS (Hospital Information System) considering Inner Mongolia Forestry General Hospital.The application of JUNWEI HIS in Inner Mongolia Forestry General Hospital either changes the hospital's management pattern or accumulates large amounts of data. With the competition in medical treatment market is becoming more and more seriously, in order to win, the hospital must make good use of the accumulated data in diagnosis and therapy process. The relatively simple statistics in HIS have been insufficient, so like information system in other field, HIS ought to be realized that differentiate OLTP and OLAP. In virtue of the Data Warehouse System, by thoroughly mining, analyzing the related date inside or outside the hospital, people can quickly turn mountains of raw data into useful and valuable information in order to support decision.The principles and design methodologies of Data Warehouse System are studied in this paper. Then the basic target and necessary functions of Data Warehouse in hospital are put forwarded. First, it is introduced the structure of JUNWEI HIS, then how the complicated data in text, numeric and image etc. are created, stored and displayed in diagram in JUNWEI HIS. Second, the prefix information of HIS tablespace and basic information of inpatients are displayed by analyzing and packing up the data in HIS.Considering the component of JUNWEI HIS data source and the requirement of hospital's Data Warehouse, many topics are designed, for example: patients compose analysis, patient costs compose analysis, single disease analysis, costs and benefit analysis, the comparison of income in same period. Illustrated how to design the inpatient compose analysis subject.The functions of every subject are listed below:Patients compose analysis: to analysis the composing of outpatient and inpatient. For example, analysis patients's source, occupation, identity and age, so we can take measure to improve our service.Patient costs compose analysis: patients's costs are composed of medicines, exam, treat and operation etc., patients's costs compose can be classified according to hospital, department or doctor.If medicines costs is higher, we can find that which department or doctor make the large costs.Single disease analysis: by analysis the costs, days in hospital and treat plan, find the best treat way, it can decrease patients's costs and increase hospital's income.Costs and benefits analysis: gather data into data warehouse in different system, and then analyze the costs and benefits, so we can know well the hospital's run.The comparison of income in same period: by compaer every kind income of hospital or department in same period, we can find the reason of income changing.Refer to the powerful data warehouse features in SQL Server 2000, the author designs an actual data warehouse system with Analysis Services, and the architecture and key processes are discussed thoroughly, including how to design the subject,dimedsionality, granularity. It is useful to prompt the data warehouse principals apply in hospital.
