Rock fractures widely exist in kinds of rocks. So, research of rock fracture plays an important role in the fields of geology, physical geography, mining, oil engineering, hydrology and nuclear waste insulation.Obtainment of surface morphology attribute data is very important in the research of rock fracture. Manual work is the traditional data obtaining method. Compared with manual work, automatic measurement by image processing is safe, fast and high precise. And some information (such as fracture network features of cliff rock) that can't be obtained by manual work can be obtained by this method. And multiple attribute data of multiple rock samples can be collected by the method at the same time. Concurrent measurement can be realized.Many image processing algorithms are used in the process of image measurement. The most important one is image segmentation. The segmenting result will affect the subsequent analysis of rock fracture directly. Kernel spatial fuzzy c-means clustering method is improved in this thesis. Fast kernel spatial fuzzy c-means clustering is presented. The improved method not only can remove noise in a segmented image, but also can decrease the time complexity. Meanwhile, little holes in fractures can be filled up.Based on the data obtained by image processing, geometry complexity of rock fracture can be analyzed. The complexity is an important kind of information for design and application of rock engineering. At present, International Society for Rock Mechanics, China National Standards and many scholars have presented some grading standards and methods for rock fracture complexity. But complicated rock fracture network can't be analyzed by these traditional grading methods. Four parameters, area ratio between fractures and non-fracture regions, fracture branch number per square meters, fracture grid number per square meters, the ratio between average area of grids and area of rock sample, are used to describe complicated rock fractures. Fuzzy comprehensive judgment model can be constructed based on these four parameters. Then geometry complexity of rock fracture can be analyzed. And the grading standard is presented in this thesis. As a result, contributes of all parameters to judgment result can be comprehensively considered. And geometry complexity of rock fracture can be calculated quantificationally. The method has been proved practical by analyzing lots of rock fracture images.
