Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are integration of sensor techniques, embedded computation techniques, distributed computation techniques and wireless communication techniques. And data stream management technology is one of the core research fields of wireless sensor networks. Because of features of fluidity and infinity, the existing database management techniques can hardly be applied to process data streams effectively. Therefore it is necessary to study new data stream management techniques for application in WSN. Data stream management now is a new research area of computer science and technology and even has a wide application future besides in WSN. In this paper, we focus on data stream management techniques in WSN. The main work and novel points of this paper are listed as follows:⑴Review concepts and characteristics of the sensor networks and the existing Data Stream Management Systems (DSMS) in WSN.⑵Analysis techniques of data streams, including data stream model, continuous query algorithms, continuous query language and optional strategies etc.⑶Study and propose a new algorithm of unequal-join aggregation query for two or more data streams, which is one of most important queries over data streams. By this algorithm, the unequal-join aggregation queries over data streams can be done efficiently with limited space.⑷Introduce the design and implementation of a prototype of our data stream management system NHSensor. In the end of this paper we make a conclusion for our research work and discuss the future work.
