The communication strategies are the important components of the study of "AReview of The Time". What are their connotations? How did they take place? Whatare the reciprocal relations among "strategies", "aim" and "mission"? What are theessence and characteristics of "strategies"? What kind of historical evolution hadthey undergone? How to evaluate their "success" and "failure"? How to appraisedifferent paradigms of the study of "strategies"? All these are questions that thisarticle strives to answer and resolve.This paper argues that the occurrence of "strategies" was greatly concernedwith the religious mission of "A Review of The Time" and "strategies" had beenchanging instead of the aim of Christian popularization, which can be deduced fromthe analysis of two aspects of "mission": media philosophy and media aim. Besides,the paper also maintains that with the development of history of the late Qing, thestrategies of Christian popularization were dynamically characterized with the clueof "exploration-analysis-offensive". In the course of the evaluation of "strategies" aswell as "paradigms", this paper points out that the "success and failure" of thestrategies of Christian popularization in China itself implicated historicinevitability——on the way of the fulfillment of "mission", the strategies ofChristian popularization might play a piece of music cadenza, which had positiveinfluence on the modem times of China, on the other hand, they were sure toaccelerate the decline of "A Review of the Time", which was originated from thatChristian popularization in China was doomed not to be ultimately successful in thecollision of the two different cultures; paradigms of the study of "strategies" werenot only the prerequisite of value-judgment and value-invention but also the premiseof the logic systems in the study of "strategies", which stipulated the restrictiveroutes of the study.
