Brain–computer interface (BCI) technology is a new communication option for those with neuromuscular impairments that prevent them from using conventional augmentative communication methods, such as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), brainstem stroke and numerous other diseases impair. BCI's provide these users with communication channels that do not depend on peripheral nerves and muscles. This paper is to study BCI system based on using electroencephalographic (EEG) activity recorded at the scalp and analysis mu rhythm activity. The BCI study is expounded by dividing into two parts. One of them is off-line BCI, and the other is on-line BCI. Firstly, we Study how to maximize the signal-to noise ratio (SNR) of the EEG, and then compared and analyzed several kinds of feature extractions and classifications such as power spectrum , wavelet analysis and Support vector machine(SVM). Secondly, we designed an on-line BCI system to control cursor movement on screen by spontaneous mu rhythm.
