Research And Design Of Host Vulnerability Scanner

As the rapid development of modem computer network technique, the application ofcomputer network to our social life is becoming more and more important. In thisnetwork of huge scope, there are numberless network hosts that ensure the systemworking properly. These hosts include servers, routers, switches, PCs etc. However, theprograms running on these hosts are not safe absolutely, with various securityvulnerabilities to some extent. Viruses, Trojans and hackers can make use of theseholes at any moment, preventing the network from serving in order, or stealingsensitive data such as credit card id and so on. It is said that the problem results in aworldwide economic loss over 1 billion dollars.In this instance, the computer industry takes steps to tackle the security problems,which are increasing in number everyday. Anti virus software has been developed,operating system patches are released everyday. In addition, there is software callednetwork and hosts vulnerability scanner. Its target is to scan the vulnerabilities of thehosts, and propose a corresponding solution.The research work mentioned in this paper is based on some popular scantechnology of the world. A network and hosts vulnerability scanner is designed andimplemented.1. Vulnerability scan technology is carefully studied, which makes the design of thescanner feasible.2. Implementation of the network and hosts vulnerability scanner, including thearchitecture, frame, control flow, modules and functions.3. The open source script language NASL is analyzed in detail, and attack scripts arewritten on the base of it.4. Thorough tests on the scanner are performed, ensuring that the scanner can workefficiently and reliably.
