The development of the manufacturing has set new requirements to performance,specifications and varieties, the product life cycle is becoming shorter and shorter. The development time of new product is a decisive factor to manufacturing. Virtual manufacturing technology can analysis and predict the problems of the design and manufacturing process by simulating the entire assembly process of manufacture, and put forward measures for improving the products from the development of the entire manufacturing process optimization, to reduce the product life cycle, reduce development risks, improve economic efficiency. And the machining process simulation holds an important position in virtual manufacturing, and it created favorable conditions for for the actual realization of the intelligenc by forecasting and optimizing a variety information of the machine-workpiece-tool process system , and it is the important means of studying product processing.A very important factor of evaluation of product quality is the surface roughness. In manufacturing, the surface roughness is a very important influence to mechanical properties of workpiece. So many scholars at domestic and foreign do research on the turned surface. They have a great deal of success, but these topography are carried out under static conditions. Few of these process are carried out under the dynamic condition. Turning is an extremely complex process. It not only relates to elasticity, plasticity, fracture mechanics, and thermodynamics, tribology. There are many factors, chip flow,temperature distribution,heat flow and tool wear and so on, affect to quality of surface. Turning is the most extensive one of the processing methods, and the simulation of turning process has important value of theoretical research and practical application.This paper will identify and analyze factors of affecting the workpiece surface topography according to the cutting mechanism, which will be applied to simulaton model. Then this paper will find the simulation model of turning based on a mechanical model of the transmission. Finally, this paper develops turning simulation program of 3D surface topography based on the simulation model, and proves simulation results by reaching simulation results of different machining conditions.
