The detection of real-time traffic flow parameters plays a critical role in the intelligent transportation system. The video-based vehicle detection system,one of the many parameter detection methods has been developed quickly in recently years. It becomes a hot research area in intelligent transportation system.Combined with the project background, a virtual detection technic based on image processing was introduced into the surveiliance systerm in tunnel.Aiming at the detection of the flow parameters in tunnel, this paper focuses on the object of the flow information. Adpoted the vitual detection technic,the real-time trafic information is computerized.According to the geometry charicteristics of the lane on highway, an simple road model was established and approximately processed. Adoption of background deduction method and the road model, strongpoints of the virtual loop contribute much to the trafic parameters detection method, espeacally in the position and size of the loop.This method with the real time and robustness traits decreases the disturbance of noise, reduces the computing burdon, ensures the efficiency of the the system.Hereby, analysing and making full use of the signal characters in order to realize the real-time detection of the trafic flux, average vehicle speed and classification etc. In addition, how to implement the the respective function is introduced in detail.The development of intelligent transportation system and the backgroud of the progect are introduced at first, and then the image processing and vitual detection in video surveillance technology are included in this dissertation, finally, the feasibility and methods studies are specified respectively in each chapter.
