IPv6 is the next version of the Internet protocol after IPv4.It has solved the problem of IP address exhaust, but also improved in many aspects, such as the network quality of service, overall network throughput, network security, plug and play support, mobility and multicast service. Therefore, from the point of view of the network technology, IPv6 will be the future trend in the field of data communications, as well as one of the core technologies in the development of the NGN (Next Generation Network).China Next Generation Internet (CNGI) Project regards the establishment of a safe and reliable network as a key research topic. According to the experience of CNGI and the security requirement of Network Operators, we analyzed the the enhanced security features and the new security risks in IPv6 network. At the same time, we proposed the security solutions that can be deployed in IP carrier network now. In order to resolve some remaining security problem more properly and achieve a better balance between performance and security, we also proposed a trust model based IPv6 network security framework that can be deployed in NGN suitably. This thesis is divided into six chapters, which have the following explanations:Chapter one gives a brief introduction to IPv6 protocol, IP carrier network, and the development trend in IP carrier network security fields. Chapter two analyzes several new or enhanced security features of IPv6 protocol.Chapter three shows the new security risks which may occur in IPv6 network and proposed concerned security solutions.Chapter four briefly describes the security solutions of three network layers (core layer, convergence layer, access layer), including many security suggestions in IP carrier network management and maintenance.Chapter five proposes a trust model based IPv6 network security framework, in order to establish a dynamically harmony safe and reliable network.Chapter six summarizes the conclusions of this research paper and gives the arrangement for the future work.
