Since BT (BitTorrent) has been applied in the network , it's rapid development cames as a surprise to people's expectations. It offering unique, efficient method for downloading files,is indeed a great convenience for people. It will greatly promote the sharing of resources. However, it also raises a serious problem: Occupying most of the network bandwidth .It seriously affects the normal applications of network, such as video-on-demand, Internet teaching and research applications. Therefore, how to restrict the flow of BitTorrent, is a very uesful issues .Firstly, this paper describes the concept, principle and the negative impact of BitTorrent. Then this paper describes several restrictions on the flow of BT currently, as well as analysis of their advantages and weaknesses.Secondly, by analysising the current common technology of the restrictions on BT flow, this paper designs a new program of restricting the flow of BitTorrent. This program uses technology of Netfitler/Iptables and TC (traffic control) on the base of linux. Netfitler/Iptables is a information packet filtering system in Linux, and TC (Traffic Control) is a bandwidth management system in Linux. This paper will make full use of these technologies to design and build a system which can no only block the BT flow but also adjust BitTorrent bandwidth according to the actual situation. Use this system on the campus we can ensure that the normal teaching and research network applications, and also be able to satisfy the desire of someone to use the BitTorrent. Finally, this paper tests the system of restrictions on the flow of BitTorrent ,then coming to a conclusion. And look ahead follow-up work in the future.
