Image data fusion is an important branch and a research hot spot in data fusion. Fusing the original images of the same target obtained by multiple sensors, thereby improving the accuracy, integrity and credibility of image description, is the task of image fusion. The fusion can be divided into three levels: pixel-level fusion, characteristic-level fusion and decision-making level fusion. The pixel-level image fusion is the foundation of the other two levels of image fusion, who is also the subject of this thesis.This article first briefly introduces the definition, classification and development of image fusion; and the research background, research goal and significance. Then, the second chapter studies some basic problems of image fusion; introduces and finishes several simple and foundational image fusion methods, whose fusion principles, advantages and disadvantages are carefully analysed; and studies the image-territory transformation fusion with emphasis on two kinds of six fusions methods based on the multi-resolution analysis. Based on these researches, this article initially proposes and realizes some improved fusion-methods. Afterwards, in the third chapter, four fusion methods, which are based on the IHS transformation, PCA (principal components analysis), DWT(wavelet decomposed) and HPF (high passed filter fusion), respectively, are further analysed; some interesting understandings are given; and, integrating several kinds of fusion methods, some new methods, which significantly improve and enhance the quality of image fusion, are proposed and realized. In the forth chapter, using the visual-qualitative-estimation to fused-image, the results of several fusion methods concerned above are evaluated and some beneficial conclusions are obtained, which further confirm the validity and advancement of these methods.Finally, the last (fifth) chapter carefully summarizes the work of this paper, further expounds the achievements and some deficiencies in the research, and points out the work needing to deal with in the further research.
