This work mainly focus on inversion algorithm of soil moisture andrelated electromagnetic scattering of rough surface in the field of microwave remotesensing of land. Here list all of research in the dissertation. (1) A simulated radar systemis proposed for research, working at UHF and VHF bands. A network analyzer on atower, which is towed by a trailer, transmittes and receives electromagnetic signals. Byrelative movements of tower and trailer, the system can simulate SAR to detect deepsoil moisture. (2) The relationship between soil moisture and dielectric constant is beenstudied. And the problem of acquiring soil moisture can be changed to acquiring soildielectric constant. (3) Single and layered rough surface scattering models are studied.Through this work, the relationship between radar scattering coefficients and soildielectric constant is founded. (4) Layered rough surface scattering is calculated byFDTD, and compared to scattering models. (5) According to character of researchedsoil surface, appropriate soil electromagnetic scattering models are chosen, and theappropriate inversion models (objective functions) are proposed. (6) An good inversionalgorithm is chosen, that is Nelder—Mead simplex method, through comparison toother kind of inversion algorithm. In this dissertation, based on simulated calculation, the inversion of layered soil moisture is proved to be possible and practical.
