The paper proposes the study and application of a new low-order model reference adaptivecontrol method conceming one kind of the high or unknown order controlled plant. The newmethod mainly aims at the deficiencies of the existing traditional MRAC, such as the rigorousideal conditions, the highly demanding object model, the complex design of the controller forthe high-order object model, and the difficult application in the actual systems. In this paper thenew method is the combination of traditional MRAC and some conventional control strategies. The strong suit is that the reference model of new adapted method can be attained easier thanthat of the traditional MRAC, it may be a low-order model which doesn't entirely rely on theactual controlled plant and it can be easily attained according to the step response and someselected rules that require a little basic structure information of the actual object model. Therefore the new method can attain robustness and capable of dealt with upon the impreciseand uncertainty of objects and it may have widespread application. In order to confirm the extensive validity of the new adaptive method, there are two typesof new adaptive methods to be formed base on two different conventional controlstrategies—the optimal strategy (continuous system) and the pole assignment strategy (discretesystem) elected in the paper, and the simplicity of design and the robustness of performance ofnew adaptive method are proved through a mass of simulations. Finally is the tentativeapplication of this new method conceming the VVVF simulation system in constant V/F mode. The simulation system is regarded simplex as a kind of generalized mathematic model withcomplex non-linear feature. Aiming at these characteristics of strong nonlinear and gain widevariation of operating region broad of this VVVF model, a new speed controller combined withnew adaptive method and gain scheduling strategy is designed. Comparing with the ordinaryPID controller, the simulation results indicate that the new method has better robustness andperformance of dynamic and static state.
