With the rapid development of computer technology, FEA (finite element analysis) method widely applies in auto industry, and integration between CAE software and CAD/CAM system remarkably improves level of die design. Furthermore, Die-face design is in shooting position of die design flow which determines quality of product. However Die-face design is a time waste and complicated process, usually we can not complete it once. In the process of Die-face design, we need an effective surface modifying method that can modify the surface to satisfy the designer's desire.Therefore, research on surface modifying based on characteristic constraints is very necessary and vital. The thesis mainly deals with:Systematically introduces the fundamental mathematic theory and approach closely related with the surface modeling, which building up the bases for surface modifying;Researches deeply on surface modifying algorithm, which has applied to the die face design part in the CAE software;Focusing on the details of the algorithm, some measures are proposed to strengthen the reliability and steadiness and enhance the efficiency of the algorithm. Parameterization of randomly measured points and curve approximation are discussed;Upon the study of above technology, the thesis applies surface modifying algorithm into Die-face Engineering module of CAE software which the author participated in development. The module has a convenient function and high implementing efficiency, which shortens mold design and manufacturing period, reduces cost and improves quality of mold product significantly.
