WLAN, a rapidly developing modern wireless communicationtechnology applied to computer network, has many advantages, such asconvenience, low cost and higher transmission rate. In recent years, withincrease of the demands, the WLAN are extensively used in enterprises, government departments and campuses. However, security is a veryimportant problem to be solved because the wireless network is physicallyopened, and with rapid development of the WLAN, the security mechanismof it has been a research focus. The paper analyzes a security structure of the WLAN based on IEEE802.11i. The design shortcomings and a basic algorithm of the prior WiredEquivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol are described, and security loopholesare studied. For further description, the encryption algorithms TKIP andCCMP, authentication access protocol and cryptographic key managementare examined in depth for IEEE 802.11i.And based on these analysis and research, the paper presents asolution for building a student WLAN based on the security mechanism ofIEEE 802.11i according to the practical applications, including hardwarestructure implementation and network security protocol configuration etc.,an object of giving consideration to high speed and security is obtained byproviding different authentication approaches for different users.
