Nowadays, with the rapid development and wide applications of computer technology and network technology, more and more information has been quickly and conveniently transmitted through the network. At the same time, it has the potential problems of the security of information. Therefore, the security of information is getting more and more important. Cryptography, which aims at the security of information, has become one of the important research fields in information science and technology. Up to now, data encryption technology is the best method to obtain information security undoubtedly; it is greatly practical and urgent to develop key technology. Chaos is one of the most important science discoveries. Along with the further understanding of chaotic phenomenon, how to apply the chaotic research achievements to serve for the humanity has became one important topic in nonlinear science.The thesis gives a brief introduction to the significance, current research status and development tendency of image encryption, has discussion about the basic theory of several image encryptions, and points out disadvantage and advantage of several encryption algorithms; chaotic dynamics are presented, the author discussed the chaotic sequences generated via logistic map. Chaotic sequences have several good properties including the ease of generation, sensitive dependence on initial condition and noise like. Chaotic theory and digital image encryption are combined, which can be used to design a better system of image encryption. This paper proposes an algorithm of image scrambling algorithm based on the chaotic map and sort transformation. The new algorithm obtains the address codes of the images transposition by the sort transformation of the chaotic sequence. Due to the strong irregularity of sort transformation, the new chaotic images scrambling algorithm possesses high security. The paper also analyzes the scrambling performance of the new algorithm in a statistical way. The results indicate that the algorithm bears nice scrambling capability.Finally, the summarization is obtained and the future research directions are also given.
