Along with the development of science and technology, fingerprint identification technology has been widely applied to various fields. For the fingerprint identification system, the design requires high real-time performance and easy to use. It's necessary for the recognition algorithm to be less complex, faster computing-speed, to meet the real-time requirements. Making a fingerprint identification system with high reliability, real-time performances and good validity, it's necessary to use different platforms for identify the different algorithm.SOPC on-chip programmable systems and embedded system in electronic design is the most popular concept. NiosII developed by Altera is an embedded soft-core processor using the pipeline technology and single-instruction stream of RISC. It can be embedded within the FPGA and integrated with user-defined logic as a form based on the FPGA chip dedicated system. With the consideration of the applications, network technology, database technology, the fingerprint identification technology and embedded systems technology as the theoretical basis, the writer carries out a feasible and effective system architecture. The research is aiming at fingerprint recognition technology from various aspects of the algorithm and the principle of the fingerprint recognition. In order to improve the real-time performances, the system uses Nios II embedded processor and FPGA hardware module to achieve fingerprint image processing algorithm. The thesis includes the following parts:1. introduce the fingerprint image pre-processing, the feature extraction and the feature matching algorithm are elaborated and the improved algorithm of the fingerprint for improving the performance of the algorithm, as well as the design of a set of the practical features fingerprint data structure;2. present the pre-treatment of fingerprint images, including images of a normalized frequency extraction, and the direction from the direction of filtering achieved by FPGA-based hardware. Experimental results indicate that the system is low- rate error, high reliability and the system's processing speed is greatly enhanced;3. explicate the improved single fingerprint identification of the traditional method, using several unique identifiers as the ID, greatly reduced the recognition system error rate; 4. present the improvement on the traditional triangular match access benchmark and variable limits combined box thinking implimet the fingerprint matching;5. introduce the integrating COM+, database and network technology, and a background fingerprint matching system, implementation of Embedded Fingerprint Identification System database with real-time information exchange;Experimental results show that the proposed framework of the system is effective and feasible. FPGA-based automated fingerprint identification system has unique advantages in terms of speed, power consumption and scalability. This method has broad prospects for application.
