Nowadays, traffic problem has become a major concern to people. In order to solve the problem effectively, intelligent transport system (ITS) has been introduced. The research scope of ITS is very large, it focuses mainly on study of road network model, on moving object and on indexing techniques of spatio-temporal data.Based on this context, this paper studies the trajectories of moving objects. First of all, the paper has proposed a mobility pattern which is a sequence of road segments, by studying a trajectory model which is a sequence of areas. Compare to the sequence of areas, the mobility pattern can describe the movement of objects more precisely in a road network. Secondly, on using the mobility pattern, the paper has proposed some methods to track and query the trajectories of the moving objects. It is a basis to study the time cost of road segment. Finally, by extracting time information of trajectories, the paper has proposed a method to compute the time cost function of road segment, which can be used to predict the time cost of a moving path. With this function, the paper has proposed a way to optimize the moving path dynamically and a way to update time information temporally before reaching the destination. As a part of ITS study, this research could offer useful information for people's trip.
