In recent years, with the development of micro-electronics, smart anteana technology has been used in the field of mobile communications successfully. By the means of space-time processing to the wireless digital signals, the efficiency of the frequency's usage is improved extremely .In next several years, our country will enter the period of 3G. So, we can see that the smart antenna technology would be used wiedely in the future.Smart antenna technology is a very important role in the aspect of reducing cost and improving performance in the mobile communication system of CDMA. But on the other hand, it will bring some questions to us alse, such as smart antenna's adjusting,the speed of smart antenna's beamforming,the problem of equipment's complication,physics layer technology, etc. In my paper, I will dicuss the question of the beamforming only.At first, I will introduce the essential knowledge about smart antenna and beamforming. After discussing the situation of usage and study to smart antenna, I will bring up my question. This question is the kernel of my paper, which is how to search a best vector composed by the phase and the amp of array element's impulse. Using the vector, we will get a smart antenna array's pattern we want.From the performance of beamforming, we will make a comparation using some methods which are discussed frequently. Then on the base of traditional genetic algorithm; by the means of redesigning I bring foeward an improved one—synthetical real-valued genetic algorithm.At the end of this article, with a simulation of improved genetic algorithm, it depicts the simulation results of convergence curve of genetic algorithm solutions. The simulation results show that our synthetical real-valued genetic algorithm is effective and satisfactory in resolving the problem of beamforming of adaptive array of smart antennas.
