Radar target recognition technique has become one of the key subjects in the radar surveillance field. And the main restriction of this technique is the lack of sufficient target echo samples. It's unpractical to acquire echo samples only by measure because of large cost and long time. Furthermore, it can't be obtained in many cases. Therefore the simulation technology is a necessary way to get echo samples.In this dissertation the technique of radar echoes simulations of ship targets is proposed for target recognition, and the technique of establishing the database of echo samples is presented. Based on these techniques the echo characteristics are analyzed, the echo models are validated.Firstly according to the 3D CAD model of ship targets, the high resolution range profile (HRRP) templates at full azimuth angles are calculated. The echoes in the radar staring state are obtained by using HRRP templates and radar transmitted signals, and the echo sample database of three targets is established. While in the radar scanning state, firstly the two-dimensional scattering center model of a target is reconstructed based on the HRRP templates, then the simulation echoes are obtained with respect to a transmitted signal and an antenna scanning mode. Moreover, taking the radial velocity into account, the echo simulations for the end-guidance radar are given.Finally, the sample database is established, and the features are extracted in the radar staring state. The feature similarity of the simulated and measured data is analyzed. the relationship of sample separability and simulation accurateness is discussed. The simulation results show that the proposed technique can provide the efficient data support for target recognition.
