A great many scholars have done lots of researches on news interviews and have raised many theories on it. However, most of them focus their attention on the style of news reports, instead of news interviews. Little attention has been paid to the asymmetry of the news interviews. This thesis will explore this field by applying the Relevance Theory, the Dialogism Theory, the Public Relationship Theory as well as the Propaganda Theory. These theories can explain the asymmetry of a conversation. In order to get the most out of the interview, the interviewers will adopt the following strategies to hold successful interviews: 1) building a pleasant and harmonious atmosphere; 2) being a listener; 3) using psychological strategies; 4) following a path of least effort in computing cognitive effects. At the same time, interviewees tend to reach the asymmetry of a conversation by means of the following strategies:1) deception; 2) subaudition; 3) equivocation; 4) optional cooperation plus some strategies for handling "question traps" and interviewer "types".The phenomenon of asymmetry in interviews offers us new angles to analyze utterance hegemony, utterance honesty, utterance logic and the destruction of the conversation. Such researches can also benefit other fields.
