With the rapid development of computer networks and multimedia technology, the production, copy and exchange of digital multimedia are becoming extremely easier and faster. In the meanwhile, it is becoming an urgent problem to protect the copyright and integrity of digital multimedia. The watermarking as a potential solution for the problem has stimulated significant interest among artists and publishers. As a result, the watermarking has recently become a very active area of research. Now, there are many algorithms, softwares, and applications for watermarking. However, all of them are in their infancy and remain many challenging problems. So the watermarking techniques for digital images were investigated in this thesis.This thesis firstly introduces some common watermarking algorithms, discusses their advantages and shortcomings , extraordinarily in DCT domain , and also testifies the advantages of the adaptive way based on absolute value to embed the watermarking in theory. The key point of the thesis is that we try to find the sections ,using FUZZY-ART theory, which has complicated texture and suitable to embed watermarking .Thus can not only improve the security of the algorithm, but also embed different amount of information according to the very needs to improve the availability; at the same time according to the characteristic of JPEG lossy compression, this thesis presents an adaptive way to embed watermarking ,which meets both the imperceptibility and robustness; at last this thesis proposes an blinder algorithm based on the code , which can be detected easily and improve the security of the algorithm.Experiments results shows that this thesis can survive JPEG lossy compression , cropping attacks and several kinds of image processing attacks. We propose a research on image robust watermarking techniques, which is useful to design an effective watermarking algorithm.
