Biometrics makes use of the inherent physiological or behavioral characteristics of human beings to identify individuals. Due to the unique, stable and live physiological properties of the iris and non-invasive to users, most stable and reliable for identification in practical applications of iris-based system, iris recognition is receiving extensive attention and becoming an active topic in biometrics.Wavelet analysis is a modern subject and has been quickly developed. Because its excellent characteristic of localizing both in time and frequency field, Wavelet analysis is very significant in theory and application. Wavelet analysis can focus on random detail.And thus is called as mathematics microscope, meanwhile, wavelet analysis has already founded its own theory system and has been applied in signal analysis, Image processing, quanta mechanics edge detecting, music and language synthesize, computer recognition and etc.Research on wavelet analysis is boosting nowadays especially in information processing and computer recognition. Wavelet analysis is a new orient of the Fourier transfer which has been widely used these years. In fact wavelet analysis has already achieved a lot of successful applications in compression coding of signal and image, edge detecting contour extracting and so on. It is one of powerful tools in signal processing.Some excellent characteristic of wavelet is hard to completeness unify as the wavelet theory research proceeds. Under the background, researcher put forward definition of multi-wavelet. Multi-wavelet not only keeps many advantages of scalar wavelet, but also avoids disadvantages of scalar wavelet. And it can satisfy with many important characteristic, such as smooth, short-support, symmetry. In the course of image processing, these characteristic benefit image compression andreproduction. Which makes multi-wavelet drawn more and more attention in the field of image processing.The main matter of our work reported in this thesis are as follows:1. Iris identification system and iris identification technology are introduced. Nowadays, iris identification technology includes four steps: iris image capture, image pre-processing, iris feature capture, matching and identification. The key role is placed on iris feature capture in this thesis.2,the basic theory of scalar wavelet analysis is briefly introduced, the relational theory of multi-wavelet is detailed explained, which includes the background, definition, MRA and scale function of multi-wavelet. Some mathematical characteristic is discussed.3,using emulational experimentation the effects of iamge processing using wavelet and multi-wavelet are compared. Finally, the last section is summarization and expectation.In conclusion, the achievement of the investigation results enriches the approaches based on wavelet transform applied to iris recognition, and has a certain theoretical and practical importance. This thesis provides useful methods and approaches for the research and the development of iris recognition technology.
