Degree management Information System for Graduates is a synthesis management system developed by advanced design methods and technologies. It is established in the real degree management work of Shandong University and it involves every stages of the degree management work for different kind users. The system is used to solve a series of realistic problems effectively such as data redundancy, the resources waste, the imperfect surveillance mechanism, and the statistical work detention and improve the impartiality and efficiency of thesis appraisement and degree information management work.The Rational Unified Process is used as development tool and UML is used as description language for analyzing and design in this paper. The whole system used multi layered J2EE-Archetecture. In the end, the system has been implemented as a management information system including six subsystems named paper writing management, qualifications examination, anonymous thesis appraisement management, thesis appraisement in school, thesis answer management and degree information examination and approval, as well as 27 function modules.In this paper, the system development background has been discussed, as well as current Domestic and foreign research status of degree management system and appraisement system on internet and web application system. Then problems to be solved have been clarified by describing the requirement model with the turn from problem space to answer space. During the course of system design, the work began with architecture design. The software architecture, deploy architecture, and function architecture are built at first. Then the system use static and dynamic structure design strategy and the design procedure of security and database structure have been discussed in detail. At last, several important problems encountered during the implement have been analyzed.The key problems solved in this paper are as follows:First, the maim actors is not only including managers, students, and teachers, but also including many students and experts distributing all over the country. Because of the characters of multi-actors, platform-striding and relative steady of less managers, the project adopt mixture-structure of B/S and C/S based on J2EE.Second, management information system based web is easier to be attacked and destroyed, so the system security architecture is built when the system architecture was designed except the hardware protection. The authorization system is developed to authenticate users' identity by using the Role-Based Access Control model to ensure the confidentiality, integrality and undeniable of information.Third , The degree management system uses the distributional deployment architecture. Regarding to the ordinary disperser users like students, appraises experts, it use the browser as customer end software. While regarding to the central users like degree administrative person, it uses the developed customer end, in order to realize the school-institute two levels of distributional management.Forth, effective methods are put forward to solve the problems often encountered in the Web application based on B/S structure, such as the problem of examination and approval degree data, and the control of process.Now, part of the system has been used successfully by Shandong University degree department. It has a great effect and makes the cultivation management of postgraduates more efficient.
