A core idea in MIMO system is the ability to turn multipath propagation, traditionally a pitfall of wireless transmission, into a benefit for the user, so MIMO can greatly improve capacity in wireless communications without additional power and spectrum. At the same time, Space Time Coding is an effective and practical way to approach the capacity of MIMO system. In order to achieve high spectral efficiencies and performance gains, a central issue in Space Time Coding is the exploitation of multipath effects in the combination of space and time.We analyse the characteristic of radio channel and its effect on the propagated signal in the paper. We discuss the application of the diversity in the MIMO system. The theoretic results and the results of the simulations show that MIMO can achieve the high capacity and improve the performance of the wireless communication. At the same time, we lay emphasis on the application of Space Time Coding, and Space Time Block Coding (STBC) is introduced intensively.In order to improve the performance of STBC, the concatenation of Error Correction Coding and Space Time Block Coding is put forth. We analyse the combination of Error Correction Coding and Space Time Block Coding in the MIMO system, in which Error Correction Coding is used as outer code and SBTC is used as inner code. And we concatenate RS and Concatenated Coding with STBC in the MIMO. At last, multimedia service is transmitted in the proposed concatenated system. The simulation results and the transmission of the pictures show that the proposed system can greatly improve the performance of the wireless communication.
