Detection and tracking moving objects in serial images is the mostly research field in Computer vision and digital image processing.We discuss image sequence with still background in this paper. Some common approaches in the field of detecting and tracking moving objects are introduced. Through comparison, the merits, weaknesses and application field of each method are concluded. Because there is less information of gray images for detection and the existence of shadows, the exiting system has a low detection and high false alarm rates. After the underlying physics of shadows and their characteristics are studied, a shadow detection approaches is exploited. It could remove shadow effectively. Optical flow approach is used to estimate moving objects for further study.The experimental results indicate that the proposed approach can run in real-time and be applied in fields such as vision-based safety-monitoring, air surveillance, and industrial detection.
