Recent advances in the communications, embedded system, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), and sensor technology have enabled the appearance of wireless sensors, which have the ability of apperception, computation, and communication. Compared with traditional sensor, Wireless sensors are small in size, low-cost, and low power. Target tracking, which aims at confirming the position, number and movement direction of target is now popularly used in military and civil aspects, such as monitor and control, navigation and so on. With the development of wireless sensor, target tracking based on wireless sensor network has been hot point.This dissertation introduces particle filter into the problem of data fuse between sensor nodes. Particle filter makes a good performance in solving such nonlinear/non-Gaussian problem as target tracking. This dissertation also makes a modeling of target tracking, applies particle filter into it, and provides the algorithm of target tracking. As to the collaboration of each node in the modeling, this dissertation analyzes a distributed network protocol and the power consumption of wireless sensor nodes. Therefore, how to modeling target tracking problem and building target-tracking system is the main task of this dissertation.The main research work of this dissertation includes: firstly, generally analyzes the particle filter, discusses its potential questions and possible solutions and provides several familiar algorithms. Secondly, according to the characteristic of geometry analyzed, the target-tracking problem can be converted to linear layout, which is the same as several restrict conditions. The target tracking system can be implemented under these conditions. Thirdly, from the point of view of realizing the wireless sensor network, this dissertation deeply studies the power consumption of each module of wireless sensor node, and provides the corresponding solutions. It analyzes the application layer protocol of target tracking in wireless sensor network. Finally, this dissertation gives the simulation and emulation of each algorithm, and validates the result of emulation.It is worthwhile to do the further research on target tracking based on wireless sensor network because of its enormous potentials. At the end of the thesis, it describes the brightprospects of target tracking based on wireless sensor network.
