Computer calligraphy is a relatively new research direction, involving artificial intelligence, image processing, and cognitive sciences. This paper presents a calligraphy tablet recovery technology based on Fourier descriptors. The purpose is to provide basic computer calligraphy font to be used in computer calligraphy creation.Three aspects are discussed. In the preprocessing part, median filtering technology is used to denoise the tablet image. Then the image was binarized. After that the image was filled and the tiny holes were wiped out. In the edge detection and smoothing part, the eight-field searching method is used for edge detection to get the outer edge of the calligraphy font. Later on, the feature extraction and edge smoothing technology based on Fourier descriptors is used. In the edge smoothing part, the original edge was preserved and smoothed with less Fourier coefficients in edge rebuilding.Finally, a system based on CxImage to verify our method is designed. The experimental results show that it has a certain effect on calligraphy documents, and can satisfy some customer requirements.
