The goal of this thesis is to design and realize a set of ultrasonic time of flight diffraction (TOFD) defect scanning and imaging system based on the SUSC880 card. The thesis discusses in detail both the main idea and structure of the ultrasonic TOFD defect scanning and imaging system, each module of the software system and how they are implemented in the project. The thesis also discusses the ultrasonic data processing, the display of defect waveform in the weld and some other techniques related to the software design. This system can work in automation and record the defect data of welds as well. The ultrasonic data can be used for detail analysis and displaying of defect waveform afterwards. At the same time, the thesis also discusses in detail the problem in waveform displaying and ultrasonic data collection of the ultrasonic software system. The ultrasonic data collection plays an important role in detecting the weld defect; meanwhile the displaying of ultrasonic waveform is also a key to the precision of defect location. It is a difficult problem in the design of ultrasonic software system to display the waveform while collecting data in real time. So the technology of multithreading and synchronization with MFC library are used in collecting data and displaying waveform. With multithreading technology, the ultrasonic software system can stably collect large mass of data while smoothly displaying the waveform on the screen. Thus it will seldom lose ultrasonic data frames and provide a betterperformance. The software is programmed under Visual Studio 6.0, and it can work on all Windows platforms. It has the feature of parameter config, real time waveform display, parameter and ultrasonic signal data storage, ultrasonic data analysis, ultrasonic defect estimation and weld defect's result display. The design of ultrasonic TOFD defect scanning and imaging system will greatly simplify the process of weld defects detection, and make the detection more efficient with more reliable results.
