Forward-error correction (FEC) and automatic repeat-request (ARQ) are two kinds of error-control in digital communication system. FEC have a simple transmission scheme and low transmission delay; While ARQ performs very high reliability and adapts the diversity of transmission channel. Hybrid ARQ combines the advantages of FEC and ARQ. So it can look after both side of the reliability and effectivity of transmission data. Turbo codes became the hotspot in the field of error correction attributes to its near Shannon performance. Based on classic Turbo codes, Rate Compatible Punctured Turbo codes was introduced and employed in the field of incremental redundancy (IR) HARQ system, which we called HARQ-RCPT system. In this dissertation, a deep study is taken on the design and application of RCPT codes in the HARQ-RCPT system.First of all, an overview of channel coding and the principle of Turbo codes is presented. Then, the characteristics of low weight codewords which will impact on the performance of Turbo codes and RCPT codes is studied. An algorithm of computing the distributions of the weight of codewords of Turbo codes, named decomposition and construction method, based on the concept of self-terminating sequence, is presented. A new method which need no convolutional operation is presented in the process of computing the distributions of the weight of codewords of Turbo codes.Puncturing is a predominant strategy to construct high code-rate Turbo codes and RCPT codes, we research on the puncturing characteristics of Turbo codes especially focus on the puncturing pattern and puncturing period and draws some useful conclusion. Based on them, the design method of RCPT codes is elaborative presented. A new design method of RCPT codes based on the evenly puncturing is presented and this new...
