With the development of the Web technology, and the vast deployment of Web applications with the B/S architecture , the data security issues of such applications have come to be a limelight. Known as a kind of extensible markup language, XML has brought a revolution to the Web applications in a sense of data distribution and management. Meanwhile, data encryption technology based on XML has several benefits than the traditional data encryption method. Taking the advantage of XML encryption technology, this paper presents a security model of Web applications and designs and implements a XML encryption component based on Java platform. Additionally, this paper also demonstrates the usage of such a component by developing a typical three-tier Web application.The main contributions of this paper are as follows:1. Explored all kinds of Web developing technologies which are based on Java platform, and presented a Web application model based on Java platform. Compared the three main developing technologies currently under use and pointed out the advantages brought by the JSP technology.2. Studied the background of XML encryption. Analyzed the shortcomings of traditional security strategies of Web applications and showed the foreground of XML encryption technology.3. Explored the traditional data encryption method and analyzed Java data encryption architecture. Designed and implemented a Java encryption class.4. Studied the XML encryption standard and presented a kind of XML encryption model and its the constructing method.5. Studied the component technology of Java platform and showed the difference of two technologies of such a platform. Integrated with JSP and JavaBean technology, designed and implemented an XML encryption component and presented the test result of it.
