Analysis Of Network Traffic Based On Campus Network Data

With the rapid development of network technologies, especially the continuous emergence of new applications. The nature of network traffic is the key for people to understand the whole network system and is the basis of network programming, design and management. It also has influence in the QOS of the network and the security of the network. So the research of the nature of network traffic has become the hotspot.In this paper, after several sampling methods of network traffic are considered, we setuped the short-term sampling method using CoralReef to get the original dataset of campus network. According to these data, we had done some statistical work including some research work on basic nature and different time scales of network traffic. We introduced the method and the scheme of the experiment to calculate the self-similarity of the traffic, made a conclusion that the network traffic had self-similarity at different time scales. At last we make some research on the traffic of BT only, and pointed that it had obvious influence on the whole traffic characteristics.
