As a basic optics apparatus, optic switch has been widely used in fiber communication system,optics measure instrument and fiber transducer. The optic switch researched in this dissertation would be used in Ruby slow-light system. There are four chapters in this paper, and they emphasize particularly on the background, the Electro-optic switching principle, design of switch circuit, experiment in Ruby slow-light with the optical switch respectively.The widely use of optic switches have been gotten more and more attention. They could be noted as six categories based in switching speed, in them the Electro-optic switch had the fastest speed. So we chose LiNbO3 as the Electro-optic crystal for our optic switch. We analyzed optic characteristic parameter, clarified electro-optics modulation principle of LiNbO3 crystal, experimented and measured it's modulation curve and made sure it's half-wave voltage. We chose Power MOSFET as the switch apparatus, analyzed it's switching characteristic, designed driving circuit and direct current stable pressure circuit supporting half-wave voltage for LiNbO3 crystal. Used Protel 99 se soft for electron circuitry debugging and testing, printed PCB circuit. Used 515.5nm laser as the light source for testing the effect of the optic switch.Analyzed the principle of slow light propagation in Ruby crystal and it's experiment setting, observed the phenomena of slow light propagation. And then set the optic switch in the main light path, we observed the relation between the light intensity focused into Ruby crystal and the time delay relative to the referenced light.
