After several generations of development, mobile communications bring more and more convenience to people, and at the same time, with the growth of bandwidth, much more needs arise. Location estimation is one of them.This thesis focuses on applying location estimation in B3G (Beyond 3G) system, and analyses the achievement as well as problems that will be encountered in B3G environment. The content is devided into five chapters.In the first chapter, background is briefly introduced, including the history of mobile communications and location estimation methods. And several problems that will greatly influence the accuracy of location estimation are also listed and analysed.In the second chapter, a B3G system model based on the research of NTT DoCoMo is introduced, including the"XG"concept, the technology of uplink/downlink, and upper layer model. Then a simulation platform derived from it is introduced.Chapter 3 involves the location estimation method selection according to B3G environment. And the parameter estimation, NLOS effect and location calculation method are introduced.Chapter 4 uses the result of location estimation to derive the location tracking and velocity of mobile station, and simulation result is given.The last chapter concludes the whole work and gives several further research directions.This thesis takes much account on actural environment, and analyses the location estimation technology in future mobile network. Hope it will be helpful to further research.
