The research for security in ad hoc network become more and more popularity, but Due to the lack of fixed infrastructure and limited resources, it will be much more complex to adapt protocol and other technologies from the infrastructure based networks. In recent Years, as a result of the increased popularity of ad hoc networks, some approaches for the group key agreement in such networks are proposed, including CLIQUES. STR and TGDH. However, they are either only for static group or the memory, computation and communication costs are unacceptable for ad-hoc networks. In this thesis we first discussed the proposed protocol, then optimized STR and TGDH, by using ECDH to improve they security and reduce the computation cost, by optimized the step of protocol to reduce the computation time and by remove the unnecessary message to reduce the communication cost. The optimized protocols are denoted by MSTR and MTGDH respectively.Based on the protocols suites MSTR and MTGDH we present a Tree-based group key agreement Framework for Ad hoc Networks (TFAN). To compare the actual performance between MSTR, MTGDH and TFAN protocol suites, we implement all four sub-protocols in TFAN, MSTR and MTGDH, compare their computation and communication costs. The experiment results validates TFAN protocol suite is more suitable for ad hoc networks with limited bandwidth and devices with limited memory and computation capability than MSTR and MTGDH.we have implemented all three protocols, and the TFAN API will be described in this thesis.
