| Fibre-optic communication with more than 30 years development has made great achievements and facilitated the progress of communication. Over these 30 years the new technology of fibre-optic communication continuously emerged. Not only optic fibre, fibre-optic cable and optic parts, but also transmission system and network formation were frequently updated. Up to date fibre-optic communication technology has been more mature, from SDH to DWDM, and the capacity of it consecutively challenges the limit of the speed rate. With the big development of Internet business, the requirement of the bandwidth of transmission network explosively increases, but the indetermination and unexpection of IP business capacity make lower the usage of transmission network which bases on permanent connections and fixed bandwidth. The contradiction between increasing transmission bandwidth and increasing the usage of bandwidth is fiercer, which demands one brand new and more intelligent optic network to face this challenge. Therefore, one of new network has emerged which can automatically complete network connection -- automatic switching transmission network (ITU-T SG13 named as ASTN) or automatic switching optic network (ITU-T SG15 named as ASON).
