Human not only have the ability of logical reasoning, but also can produce, control and express emotion. Computers are used to simulate human's capacities. It is an important research that how to make emotional computers, since computers can reason logically with AI. To make computer have a comprehensive intelligence, implement a harmonious human-computer interaction and achieve the human-centered target, the key issue is to make computers to be adaptable to human emotion.Intelligent virtual agent is graphic entity that created by computer program. Intelligent virtual agent is used to simulate behaviors and actions of the actual human or animal in real world. The research of endowing intelligent virtual agent with emotion is very significant. Because of the research will enable intelligent virtual agent produce emotion according to the environment of virtual world and interactive behavior with user. The produced emotion will impact the decision of behavior of intelligent virtual agent and cause behave is more credible.In this article, we bring forward an architecture that intelligent virtual agent with emotional ability based on the study of intelligent agent and emotion theory. The architecture has many modules , which include perception module, cognition module, internal variable module, emotion module and behavior module. These modules integrate as a system. We summarize the function and technology of the modules of the architecture. The importance of this article is emotional producing module and behavior module. We define the computational models of personality, emotion and mood and their influencing module. In article we present model of producing emotion based on the two emotional theories. The model make the intelligent virtual agent not only produc(?) fast reflecting emotion but also produce cognitive emotion through cognitive reasoning. We present making-decision model of behavior based on the reinforcement learning. The behavior of the intelligent virtual agent is influenced based on both cognitive state and emotional state. Finally, to evaluate the validity of the architecture, we implement an interactive system of electronic pet. Duringthe interaction between the pet and user, the behavior of the dog is more lively compared with other generic electric pet.
