Based on the methodology Swanda proposed a developed methodology is studied to assess the performance tracking setpoint of PID controller, which is based on a set of dimensionless performance indices and an on-line identification based on standard recursive least squares, for the estimation of pure time delay. With regard to a setpoint ramp signal change from closed-loop response, the dimensionless performance indices are based on a model of first or second order rational transfer function plus a time delay. The satisfied performance criteria got from internal mode control tuning are used to define performance classes and give the band of the indices for every class. Performance of steam temperature and pressure system was assessed, from closed-loop data performance indices were calculated and pure time delay was identified, which is used to make traditional indices dimensionless. According to the performance band in the paper, performance can be assessed.
