With the recent development of wireless technology and Internet, the requirements of portable computers are fast increasing. And WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) is used widely to meet these demands because of its high flexibility and robustness. There are many existing standards now, such as IEEE802.11, HiperLAN and Bluetooth etc, but IEEE802.11 is most widely used. The main task of medium access control (MAC) protocol is to efficiently share limited wireless channel among distributed stations. Conventional MAC mechanism can hardly provide good performance in a complex environment. Consequently it is meaningful to develop MAC techniques with adaptive ability for network environment.Based on performance analysis and optimization of system, this dissertation focuses on adaptive MAC technologies for WLAN.
