Multicarrier modulation technology is studied intensively for the high-speed info-transmission. Wavelet packet based multicarrier modulation is a technique combining wavelet analysis theory and multicarrier modulation perfectly. It provides high frequency efficiency, better performance against intersymbol interference, intercarrier interference, tone and impulse interference and can transmit multirate symbols easily. Obviously, it is a promising technique nowadays. This paper mainly concentrates on the performance in Rayleigh fading channels and PAPR analysis of wavelet packet based multicarrier modulation system. The system structure is discussed and the system's advantage over OFDM and FMT is presented. We also enrich previous studies by analyzing the performance in Rayleigh fading channels and technique against fading. On the basis of establishment of multipath Rayleigh fading channel model, we analyze the system performance in Rayleigh fading channels and propose a Zero-forcing equalization method based on time-domain channel estimation. After that we analyze the PAPR problem of the system and give a method based on SLM technique to get a PAPR reduction. For each part, MATLAB and SIMULINK simulations are made to show the performance of the system. The analysis of theory and simulation results indicate those methods in this paper can improve efficiently the system performance in PAPR reduction and against multipath fading.
