With the development of manufacture and auto-technology, encoder, the combination of digital and computer technology, have been widely applied into practice. Recent years, the miniaturized encoder has made challenges to the traditional one. It seems that the study of new coding theory, the invention of new types of encoding disk, and the using of advanced electronic technology in development of new absolute photoelectric encoder has been a tendency.This paper, absolute encoder based on a single track, is focused on the study of new absolute electronic coding system. According to the quantity and reading position that the coding disk requires, it can be categorized into the index absolute encoder and the uniform absolute encoder.By pseudo-random sequence, the index absolute encoder can be indexed easily and accurately. This paper puts forwards its application in absolute angular encoder and the generation of encoder.Considering it is a single track encoder, the pseudo-random sequence index absolute encoder, length p = 2 n?1, is generated based on m-sequence. In the method of adding zero in advance, it gets index with the number of 2 nranging from zero to 2 n ?1. However, the method, m-sequence cutting, can be adopted to get an index less than 2 n ?1with first place connection. In this case, the speed of generating high rank absolute encoder is faster than that of searching step by step.The number of tracks increasing responds positively to the accuracy of the traditional Gray coding disk, which is against the miniaturization of angle encoder. Besides, the higher the technology is, the higher the cost is. The index absolute encoder disk ,according to the projects, needs only two racks, namely the synchronous track and the index track, and three photosensitive reading heads for high rank index encoder to read absolute positional numbers, which is in favor of advancing miniaturization as well as reducing the cost and technology.
