Some new challenges need to be solved in future wireless communication system, such as,(1) Demand of great system capacity;(2) Demand of high data rates;(3) Demand of high spectrum efficiency.Problems above have become serious obstacles that prevent the rapid development of wireless communication technology. MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) is not only a simple but also an effective technology to solve all these problems above. Therefore MIMO is a leading and promising technology. But because the more the number of transmitters or users are in a MIMO system, the much the interference is, an efficient and simple multiuser detection method for MIMO system is very important. As a new parallel algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm (PSO) proposed by Kennedy and Eberhart had showed great advantage in solving multidimensional and non-linear problems, and it is easy to be applied. By improving Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) algorithm and applying it in MIMO system as a multiuser detection algorithm, a BPSO Multiuser Detector for MIMO system (MBPSOD) is proposed in this paper. Furthermore, a MIMO Multiuser Detection example in which U users communicate with a base station which has E receivers through their respective K transmitters is discussed.Simulations show that not only the performance of MBPSOD is excellent but also the increase of data rates and the improvement of BER performance are significant by using the MBPSOD.
