As the oldest and most popular method among the biometric recognition, fingerprint recognition has been widely used in many areas such as personal identification, e-business and network security. There have been many research efforts in fingerprint recognition, but some difficult problems are still not solved. Lots of work need to do to improve the accuracy and utility of the recognition algorithm, to enhance the reliability and security of application. As an important area in pattern recognition, the researches on fingerprint recognition are not only theoretically but also practically meaningful.In this paper, we focus on common fingerprint recognition, from algorithms on fingerprint preprocessing to fingerprint feature extracting and fingerprint matching. A set of algorithms for fingerprint recognition is presented. A new binarization method of fingerprint images based on the orientation and fuzzy theory is proposed, which fully makes use of the orientation and the characteristics of grayscale change. This method has the excellent capability of noise resistance. The fingerprint-matching algorithm based on vector triangle has been improved by utilizing the information of two adjacent minutiaes to determine the reference points in fingerprint image and to fulfill fingerprint matching. Experimental results demonstrate that the method doesn't rely on the core points, and furthermore.It is invariant to rotation. But this demands good quality of images.A fingerprint recogintion system based on BIOS firstly designed and applied in this paper. The fingerprint recogintion module is embedded to the PC's BIOS to enhance the security of the PC. A hardware layer driver is developed for the USB fingerprint image sensor. This paper also presents the interface specification of USB host controller based on UHCI, analyzes the implement of hardware layer in USB stack. A method of developing host controller driver is described. The key data structures and algorithms used in the driver are also explained. The system is integrated in the flash of the mainbord of PC and does not depend on any software system, such as Linux/Windows. With the feature of ease-of-use, expansion, flexibility and security, it presents the high level in security products based on BIOS.
