Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women aged 35–54. It is expected to reach one in seven women by the year 2000. Survival rates are highest when it is detected early and still confined to the breast. It is of great signality to have a widespread forepart examination for breast disease. A non-invasion, radiation-free, low-cost and employing repeatedly method is needed for early detection of breast tumor.So far, the in existence ways of breast examination such as palpation, X-ray mammography, ultrasonography and MRI are in a way difficult to apply to the forepart examination.The electrical impedance scanning (EIS) is a new technique for breast examination based on the fact that the malignant tissues exhibit the great difference of electrical properties that cause an impedance variation from the normal healthy tissues and benign lesionsWith the method of mapping the local electrical impedance properties of breast tissue from the surface, EIS is non-invasive and radiation-free, and has the potential to make a clinically significant and cost-effective methodology for the detection of early stage of breast tumor.An electrical impedance scanning system known as TS2000 manufactured by TransScan Research and Development Center, Israel, received FDA approval in the USA in 1999.In china the birth of the EIS equipment Angelplan-EIS1000 made by EIS research group, the Fourth Military Medical University, makes a great progress in native EIS domain. It is of great significance to the future work. However Angelplan-EIS1000 still has it shortcoming in performance compared with TS2000. This dissertation prepares a new overall frame design of the breast EIS equipment based on the study of EIS principles and the deep investigation in the Angelplan-EIS1000. At the same time, the hardware realization of the signal detection module is given.An EIS device is assembled according to the new blueprint. The device works stably and the experiments prove the performance and the measure precision of the device reach the target made before.
