Research On The Campus Network Management System

With the increasing of network scale and complexity, the network management plays a more and more important role in network running .Sometimes even a petty error may lead to a network crashing and make network users suffer a great losses. So a suitable network management should be set up to ensure available performance and safety utility.This paper first analyzes the shortcoming of the traditional model of network management and suggests a three-level model which is distributed and based on WEB/SNMP. Some advantages and its feasibility are also analyzed. Distribute management mode can overcome the problems that are resulted by centralized management.This paper expounds the topology discovery algorithm based on the virtual network technology on the base of the three-hierarchy model. The algorithm can gain the information of the active host computer and the distributed information of the route through collecting acquiring the information of ARP form and the route in the exchanger. It can deduce the topological information of the first-level network including exit physical connection and partition information of sub-network. In the second-level network topological information, the algorithm can gain the information of the active host computer in each sub-network and calculate the topological structure of VLAN network.This paper also discusses the achievement of calculating network traffic and forecasting technology based on SNMP MIB technology. And it puts forward that a newly, self-adapting and forecasting model of network traffic should be set up by exponential smoothing. It can calculate the time sequence of normal traffic and the average percent of error is lower than 5%. It also can analyze the exceptional condition of network and give alarm by itself through calculating error and standard deviation in network running.Finally, based on the three-hierarchy model and algorithm, a web-based network performance management system should be set up with Java+PHP+SQL SERVER. This system can analyze the acquired data of the active network traffic on line with topology algorithm by network equipment of collecting program. It can gain the information of the active host computer. Through analyzing self-adapting traffic model on line and evaluating the network running state, it can discover the exceptional condition of network and give alarm. Thereby, it can make the network management achieve intellectualized of network performance.
