The foundation of information technology is digitalization, and the kernel of digitalization is digital signal processing. DSP technology becomes hot front edge and is growing up rapidly. FIR digital filter design is very important in digital signal processing. FIR filter design is based on a direct approximation of the specified magnitude response, with the often added requirement that the phase be linear. The design of an FIR filter of order N may be accomplished by finding either the length-(N+1) impulse response samples {h[n]} or the (N+1) samples of its frequency responseThere are three usual design ways of FIR digital filter. They are window functions, frequency sampling technique and chebyshev equal ripple approach designs. In the thesis, the design theory and there three design ways of FIR digital filter are studied. Analyze experimental results by some material examples, and contrapose some question during design processing, they are solved by ant colony algorithm (ACA). The ant colony algorithm is a novel bio-inspired optimization algorithm, which simulates the foraging behavior of ants for solving various complex combinatorial optimization problems. And researched mostly designs of FIR digital filter by ant colony algorithm, problem of design by usual ways is solved well.
