A Study On Web Service In Search Engine

Web Service has become one of the most important web-related technologies. As a renovation of distributed technology, the most advantage provided by Web Service is standardization of communication between applications across web. Web Service uses XML as data format of exchanging and communicating, which make it easier for component-level integration.In this paper, the core technologies of Web Service, as well as the standards and architecture, the combination of Web Service and search engine related technology are being described. Then, the functionalities of Web Service in the area of information search and retrieval are investigated.After that, based on the researching and analysis of Web Service, considering the features of information search and retrieval, the main work of this paper is to find how Web Service enhances the searching ability of search engine. Integration is the main factor of the role of Web Service on the field of search engine. Integrate the ability of information retrieval in information management system into search engine, and then retrieve information from different kinds of source in a unified way. Furthermore, in this paper the benefit and shortage of the communication with mobile device via Web Service are analyzed, and this process is emulated. Moreover, a demo system, named UniSearch, is designed and partly implemented, through which to verify our researching and assumption on Web Service.The next generation of World Wide Web and Web Service are also being prospected in this paper. As the main technology of communicating, Web Service will take more important role in the next generation of WWW and search engine.
