The Research And Application Of Digital Rights Management In Enterprise Documents

In information world, business data of an enterprise is the most important property of the enterprise. However, the data is always leaked now and then, although all kinds of security technology are adopted. The security technologies are analyzed, including file system protection, network transferring security and security electronic mail, but these all protect documents exteriorly. If these documents leave the security environments, they would be used, modified, released illegally. At the same time, these technologies only have two alternatives (rightful or not) to protect documents. Because of the two points, this paper puts forward and realizes a system which protects documents by Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.After Analyzing all kind of DRM products, RMS is choose as framework in this paper and the RMS is extended to meet some new features in enterprise documents managements. The demonstration how to use DRM protect documents in enterprises is given in this paper.Microsoft Office documents are used popularly in enterprises and there is a new feature called Information Rights Management (IRM) available in Office 2003. The paper utilizes it in office Addin (plug-in) to implement the full DRM function with RMS. Instead of Boundary Management, Expiration Management, the paper also implements Document Access Log, Illegal Access Log, and Custom Rights Template. During the process of research and application, how to develop Office Addin is the key point. The paper summarizes the framework for Office Addin developing and finishes the system in the basis of the framework.
